About LEDARS Bangladesh
Local Environment Development and Agricultural Research Society (LEDARS) is a non-profit and non-political organization working towards the social, economical, and environmental development of the poor and marginalized people in the southwest coastal region of Bangladesh. Formerly known as Gana Unnayan Shangstha (GUS), LEDARS has been registered under the Social Welfare Department and NGO Affairs Bureau of the Government of Bangladesh since 1996. LEDARS focuses on raising awareness about environmental degradation and climate change, building the capacity of marginalized communities to cope with climate change, promoting adaptive technology for climate change adaptation and mitigation in agriculture, water, and livelihoods, and conserving the biodiversity of the Sundarbans mangrove forest and the coastal ecosystem.
The organization also works towards providing access to quality education and primary healthcare services for underprivileged children and vulnerable communities, supporting women-headed families to claim their rights and income security, and promoting sustainable environment, human rights, and good governance practices.
