Left Bank Books Collective is a long-standing and cherished fixture of Seattle's radical community. Since 1973, this collectively operated bookstore has been serving the city with a wide selection of popular titles, events, and publishing projects. Located in the bustling Pike Place Market, Left Bank Books is committed to providing access to alternative literature and fostering a space for intellectual exchange.
As an anarchist collective, Left Bank Books is owned and operated by its dedicated workers, ensuring equal decision-making and a non-hierarchical structure. With no bosses or managers, the collective makes decisions through a consensus process during bi-monthly meetings. Although Left Bank Books faced financial challenges in the past, it continues to thrive thanks to the support of Seattle's radical community and visitors from all over.
The store offers wheelchair accessibility at its storefront, and while the upper levels may not be wheelchair accessible, the bottom level can be easily reached. Additionally, the store provides a few seating options and there are accessible bathroom facilities nearby at Pike Place Market. So, whether you're searching for thought-provoking books, attending engaging events, or eager to support a collective effort, Left Bank Books is the go-to destination for those seeking intellectual stimulation in Seattle
