Legacy Dallas

Legacy Dallas is a cultural and educational organization dedicated to bringing the history of Dallas County to life. Its mission is to connect the past, present, and people of the community by encouraging curiosity, creating engaging educational experiences, and sharing the individual stories behind the county’s development. Through its online and in-person presentations, Legacy Dallas explores the area’s cultural, political, and social history, from Native American communities and early settlers along the Trinity River to the entrepreneurs who helped shape its economy.

The organization offers virtual exhibits featuring stories and artifacts from the former Old Red Museum of Dallas County History and Culture. These exhibits trace the county’s history across five periods, from prehistory to the present. Visitors can also explore a permanent, free public exhibit at the Dallas County Records Building, near Dealey Plaza and the historic West End. Legacy Dallas serves teachers and students with resources that complement classroom learning and encourage meaningful connections to local history.
