Circolo Legambiente Garbatella

Legambiente Garbatella is a local environmental association serving Rome’s Garbatella neighbourhood and the wider Municipio VIII area. Founded in 1993, the group works to protect nature, improve urban spaces and encourage residents to live more sustainably. Its approach combines local action with awareness of wider environmental challenges, including climate change, waste, biodiversity loss and the transition to a circular economy.

Since 2012, the association has managed Parco Garbatella, developing and caring for its woodland, urban gardens, orchard, nature trail, intensive forest, rose garden and Zen garden, alongside recreational facilities. The park also hosts community activities and is a shared green space for people of all ages.

Legambiente Garbatella offers environmental education for schools and children, neighbourhood projects, cultural events and public campaigns. Activities include clean-up initiatives, tree planting, recycling education, market research and events promoting sustainable mobility and intercultural exchange. The association also shares practical guidance on reducing waste and environmental impact, and invites people to participate through volunteering, membership and donations.
