Leicester Musical Memory Box is an independent, not-for-profit Community Interest Company that uses music to support wellbeing and social connection. Founded in 2018, it grew from singing sessions for people affected by dementia and memory loss and now welcomes anyone who may benefit, including carers, friends and family. Its interactive sessions combine singing, music, discussion, cognitive exercises and gentle seated activities to stimulate memory, encourage participation and help reduce loneliness and isolation.
The organisation runs weekly and monthly groups across Leicester and surrounding areas, including Loughborough, Oadby, Anstey, Broughton Astley, Rutland, Melton and Market Harborough, as well as online sessions. Its Geet Sangeet groups serve the South Asian community with songs in Gujarati, Hindi and Punjabi. Leicester Musical Memory Box also offers bespoke sessions for care homes and day clubs, and one-to-one visits at home on request. Sessions are led by experienced facilitators and supported by volunteers. The organisation relies on donations to help run its groups and provides a YouTube channel where participants can become familiar with songs used in sessions.
