About Leonard Cheshire Disability Zimbabwe
Leonard Cheshire Disability Zimbabwe (LCDZ) is a renowned brand that has been delivering high-impact, adaptive programs for people with disabilities since 1981. Founded by an Irish Catholic Priest who was inspired by his experiences in the UK, LCDZ initially provided temporary residential housing for adults and children with disabilities. However, in 2008, the organization shifted its focus to non-residential outreach services, in line with the global change in approach to disability rights.
LCDZ is committed to a rights-based, holistic, gender-sensitive, and disability-inclusive approach. Their grassroots initiatives have transformed disability work in Zimbabwe, making them a leader in disability inclusion. They offer a range of services, including health and rehabilitation programs and the strengthening of disabled persons' organizations towards resilient communities.
Additionally, LCDZ operates an Orthopaedic Center that provides essential orthopaedic products. The brand's historical roots can be traced back to Lord Leonard Cheshire of Woodhall, a British World War II veteran, whose pioneering work in building homes for disabled people led to the establishment of Cheshire homes worldwide. Today, Leonard Cheshire Disability is a global legacy, spanning over 200 organizations across 54 countries.
By partnering with LCDZ, organizations can help create accessible environments and implement disability-inclusive practices, driving positive change and making a broader impact
