About Leprosy Research Initiative
Leprosy Research Initiative (LRI) is a foundation dedicated to eradicating leprosy through research and capacity building. LRI collaborates with various organizations, including NLR, American Leprosy Missions, German Leprosy and Tuberculosis Relief Association, and Damien Foundation, among others, to fund and support innovative leprosy research projects worldwide. Before LRI, leprosy research relied on individual funding and lacked a structured joint funding mechanism.
However, the establishment of LRI in 2013 brought together these organizations under a common mission. LRI operates under Dutch law and is guided by a steering committee, ensuring research priorities are clearly defined and align with their vision for a leprosy-free world. LRI's goal is to establish and maintain a joint research fund to support high-quality leprosy research.
They also aim to secure external funding for research projects that align with their research agenda. By promoting research, strengthening capacity in endemic countries, and translating research results into policy and practice, LRI strives to contribute to their vision of a world free from leprosy
