LeRIRO Fukuoka is an innovative rugby team established in the spring of 2022 in Ukiha City, Fukuoka Prefecture. This community-oriented team is dedicated to fostering regional alliances while striving towards the pinnacle of Japanese rugby, the Japan Rugby League One. Inspired by the vivid blue plumage of the kingfisher, the team name "LeRIRO" combines the concepts of "瑠璃色" (blue) with the French word "LeRire," meaning "laughter," embodying their mission to share "emotion, laughter, and dreams" globally through the sport of rugby.
The team promotes a vision of inclusivity and radical community engagement, symbolized by their motto "Be Local, Be Radical." LeRIRO Fukuoka emphasizes building connections among people, resources, industries, and the local community. They encourage player recruitment and collaboration to enhance regional identity and sportsmanship. Led by captain Daiki Shimakawa, they focus on nurturing talent in a supportive environment, offering practice sessions throughout the week for aspiring players.
