Les Chevaux du Sud

Les Chevaux du Sud is an equestrian and film festival held in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, bringing together cinema, literature, photography and live equestrian culture. Its programme explores the relationship between people and horses, with a particular focus on equine behaviour, ethology and working traditions. Festival events are generally presented over four days at the local cultural centre, with free admission to the main programme.

The festival offers documentary screenings, feature films, discussions with filmmakers and professionals, and opportunities to meet riders and researchers. Its activities have included presentations on Camargue, Iberian and Western working-riding traditions, demonstrations of cattle sorting, and conversations about the partnership between humans and horses at work. Visitors can also discover photographic exhibitions, a large equestrian bookshop, author talks and book signings. Special activities have included a beach photography session with horses running free and the opportunity to explore the landscapes of Camargue on horseback.
