The Levi Strauss Museum in Buttenheim, Germany, is a cultural museum dedicated to the life of Levi Strauss and the history of blue jeans. Located in the house where Strauss was born, it traces his journey from a Jewish peddler’s son in Upper Franconia to a successful textile manufacturer in America. Its permanent exhibition explores both his personal story and the development and cultural significance of the famous blue trousers.
Visitors are invited to discover the world of indigo and denim and consider how jeans became more than clothing: an enduring symbol of youth, freedom, individuality and a relaxed lifestyle. The museum also presents special events and activities, including programming about collecting jeans and themed experiences combining jeans and food. Groups may arrange visits outside regular opening hours.
A museum shop is available on site. The museum has received multiple international awards and welcomes visitors at its historic Buttenheim location. It is not wheelchair accessible because of the building’s structural limitations
