Le violon de Jos

Le violon de Jos is a collaborative, evolving multimedia encyclopedia dedicated to Québec traditional music. It supports the culture, practice, and learning of the tradition by bringing together freely shared information, recordings, and resources. The site documents more than 1,200 traditional tunes and nearly 1,500 interpretations, with entries that may include videos or audio links, playable sheet music, and original public-domain audio files. It also features profiles of musicians, including composers, and invites community members to add or improve content.

Visitors can explore music and dance, discover performers and interpretations, browse collections and events, and find learning materials such as fiddle resources, scores, tuning information, and musical guidance. The platform also provides tools and projects related to traditional music, including sessions, video projects, workshops, and research resources. Participants can contribute by adding an interpretation, sharing a performance video, documenting an artist, or completing a musician’s profile. Le violon de Jos functions as both a public reference and a community-driven resource for preserving and sharing Québec’s traditional music heritage.
