Lexington Soil and Water Conservation District (LSWCD) is a local organization dedicated to promoting the wise use and care of natural resources for the benefit of Lexington County residents. It supports environmental education and conservation through community programs, workshops, and outreach activities for learners of different ages.

LSWCD works with partners including Keep the Midlands Beautiful, Adopt-A-Stream, and other soil and water conservation districts to offer educational events. Topics include stream monitoring, water management, pollution prevention, water conservation, rain gardens, and rain barrels. Its programs also explore local wildlife, gardening, pet-safe plants, and the environmental effects of abandoned pets.

For educators, LSWCD facilitates Project Learning Tree workshops and provides resources for hands-on activities that can strengthen students’ environmental literacy. The district also offers educational opportunities through libraries and community events, alongside initiatives such as mini-grant applications, scholarships, a Teacher of the Year program, and poster and photography contests. Through these activities and partnerships, LSWCD helps residents learn practical ways to care for local waterways, land, plants, and wildlife.
