LGL-TPE, the Laboratory of Geology of Lyon: Earth, Planets and Environment, is a research and teaching laboratory focused on the Earth and planetary sciences. Its work spans four main themes: Surface and Lithosphere; Earth and Planets; Biosignatures and Primitive Life; and Paleontology, Paleoecosystems, Paleoenvironments and Paleoclimates. Cross-disciplinary research also addresses data exploration and machine learning, the origins of planetary systems, and collaboration across Earth sciences.

The laboratory supports research through scientific projects, publications and a broad range of instruments and technical expertise. Its facilities and services include geological and paleontological collections with 3D imaging, microscopy, geochemical and isotopic analysis, organic geochemistry, Raman microspectroscopy, sample preparation, microbiology, scientific computing, and experimentation under extreme conditions. It also offers capabilities in structural, elemental and molecular analysis, analog modeling, drones and analog experimentation.

LGL-TPE shares scientific and laboratory news, and provides information about training, internships and employment. With locations at ENS de Lyon, La Doua and Saint-Étienne, it serves a research community working across interconnected topics in geology, planetary science and the environment.
