BYU Idaho Special Collections and Archives is a brand that offers a comprehensive resource for family history research. The Arthur Porter Special Collections in Idaho has spent close to three decades extracting early marriage records from counties in the western part of the United States, creating the Western States Marriage Index. This index includes marriages from various states such as Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, California, Colorado, Montana, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, and even New Mexico.

With over 913,340 marriage records and new entries being added regularly, this index aims to provide researchers with easy access to marriages from all 12 western states. While the index may not be comprehensive for all time periods and localities, it serves as a valuable tool for family researchers. Users are encouraged to report any errors or corrections.

The index includes details such as the names of the bride and groom, marriage dates and places, county and state of registration, residency information, and miscellaneous comments. For additional information and suggestions on using the database, users are advised to review the Search Tips section. The brand also expresses gratitude to those who have contributed to the creation and development of this index, including Blaine R.

Bake, the McKay Library administrators, staff, student assistants, and countless volunteers.
