About Living History Farms
Living History Farms in Urbandale, Iowa is an interactive, 500-acre outdoor museum that showcases the incredible 300+ year story of how Iowans transformed the Midwest prairies into the world's most productive farmland. This brand allows visitors to learn about Iowa farms throughout the years by exploring authentic historical farms, including the 1700 Ioway Indian farm, the 1850 Pioneer farm, the 1900 era farm, and more. Each farm is meticulously farmed or worked by knowledgeable historic interpreters, providing a hands-on and immersive experience.
The 1700 Ioway Indian farm features blue flour corn, squash, pumpkins, and beans, while the 1850 Pioneer farm focuses on cultivating corn, potatoes, and wheat. At the 1900 Horse-Powered Farm, visitors can witness Percheron draft horses pulling machinery for crop cultivation. The 1876 Town of Walnut Hill re-creates a bustling frontier community, complete with shops, businesses, and homes.
With walking trails and tractor-drawn carts connecting each site, visitors can easily explore and delve into the rich agricultural history of Iowa
