The Observatorio a las Libertades Ciudadanas is a collaborative initiative in Ecuador dedicated to promoting and defending civil and political rights, particularly those that enable public participation in civic life. It also advocates respect for the rule of law. The Observatory monitors and analyzes threats and violations affecting civic freedoms, including freedom of expression and the press, association, peaceful assembly and protest, religious freedom, due process, and equality before the law.

Its work includes publishing alerts on reported incidents, producing reports and other public information, and encouraging dialogue about conditions in Ecuador’s civic space. The Observatory’s methodology combines awareness-raising and promotion, gathering alerts about threats to rights, and advocacy and the development of proposals. People can submit reports about suspected violations through its website; the organization says it will investigate and responds to messages. Its publications examine issues such as the role of courts in protecting civic freedoms and the deterioration of civic space.
