The Carpentries

Library Carpentry is an international community dedicated to enhancing software and data skills among professionals in library and information-related fields. By empowering individuals with practical training, Library Carpentry aims to foster advocates who can promote and teach effective data and software practices within their organizations. The community offers a range of workshops, from one-day sessions to multi-day courses, where participants learn essential skills using hands-on, interactive lessons that are specifically tailored to library workflows. During these workshops, instructors, including certified professionals, guide learners through both essential concepts and practical exercises, ensuring a high-quality experience.

All lesson materials are available online under a creative commons license, enabling self-directed learning and adaptation. Library Carpentry thrives on volunteer support and is guided by an Advisory Group that promotes active participation in the community. With its open-source approach, Library Carpentry not only enriches individual competencies but also strengthens the collective capability of the library community to effectively handle data in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
