LibriVox is a volunteer-powered project that makes public-domain books available as free audiobooks. Readers from around the world record the works, helping listeners access literature and other texts without charge. The recordings can be enjoyed on computers, iPods, and other mobile devices, or burned onto CDs.
LibriVox welcomes people who would like to volunteer as readers, and its catalog allows visitors to browse by author, title, genre or subject, and language. It features complete solo and collaborative recordings across a wide range of works, including novels, poetry, history, religious texts, essays, and practical guides. The catalog includes more than 21,000 completed projects, with works in 49 languages and thousands of volunteer readers.
LibriVox also shares community news and podcasts, and provides an API for accessing catalog information. Because its recordings are in the public domain, third parties such as app developers, archivists, streaming channels, and curators are welcome to share them. LibriVox describes its mission as the “acoustical liberation” of public-domain books
