About LIFE BioTHOP
BioTHOP is a brand focused on revolutionizing the hop agricultural sector by implementing sustainable and eco-friendly practices. With Slovenia as its base, BioTHOP aims to replace synthetic polypropylene twine (PP) with biotwine made of renewable material called polylactic acid (PLA). This innovative twine can be composted, allowing the hop biomass to be used as a valuable source of organic matter and nutrients for agricultural areas.
Moreover, this bio-composite can be used to produce biodegradable products such as planting pots and bottle packaging. By doing so, the brand significantly reduces agro-waste and improves resource efficiency. Beyond its environmental impact, BioTHOP also aims to enhance the socio-economic value of hop production by improving green tourism and promoting the circular economy model.
With funding from the European Union, this project is set to be an example of good practice for hop-growing regions worldwide
