Lifeboat Foundation Trust is an Indian nonprofit trust founded in January 2013 by young seafarers to help underprivileged students pursue education and support people facing medical emergencies they cannot afford. Inspired by a student-led response to a medical crisis, the organization grew from local welfare efforts in Chennai. It is registered under the Indian Trust Act of 1882 and is 80G certified.
The foundation’s work centers on scholarships and community support. Its programs assist academically capable students with limited financial means, including children facing exceptional hardship or other disadvantages. Donations can fund tuition, school fees, books, stationery, uniforms, bags, and shoes; some campaigns also provide tutoring and mentorship. The organization invites individuals, companies, schools, colleges, and other institutions to donate, volunteer, mentor, fundraise, or partner through CSR and scholarship initiatives. Volunteers can help with student counselling, events, and outreach. Lifeboat Foundation also shares quarterly progress information, financial documents, impact stories, and annual reports to support transparency and accountability, while organizing scholarship ceremonies and career guidance workshops for students.
