Peterson Life with Cancer is an Inova-affiliated support and education program serving people affected by cancer and the loved ones who care for them. Its mission is to enhance quality of life through information, education, and support, helping individuals navigate the experience at every stage, from diagnosis and treatment to survivorship, advanced illness, and end of life. Programs are free, with registration generally required; interpreter and translation services are available at no charge upon request.
The organization offers counseling, oncology nurse navigation, educational classes, and support groups for patients, caregivers, families, young adults, and children. Groups address specific cancer types and experiences, including breast cancer, grief, sexual health, and survivorship. Online, in-person, and hybrid options are available, alongside nutrition education, stress reduction, fitness, and mind-body programs. Through a partnership with Healwell, Inova patients in treatment can access up to three free massage sessions and six free acupuncture sessions; reduced-cost massages are available to other patients and caregivers.
