About Liga de Ciudades de Puerto Rico
Liga de Ciudades de Puerto Rico is a non-partisan organization that brings together local governments with the goal of improving the quality of life for the people of Puerto Rico. The league was created in response to the shared need of mayors and municipal governments to establish an entity that strengthens their ability to provide services to communities across the country. At the core of their work is the concept of Municipalism, which focuses on local governance.
This political ideology aims to empower municipalities by providing them with greater autonomy. The league operates with values of transparency, accountability, citizen participation, learning, collaboration, and leadership in service to the people. One of their initiatives is the Bandera Violeta Project, a collaborative effort with Coordinadora Paz para las Mujeres and the National Network of Gender Violence Shelters, sponsored by the Municipality of Gurabo.
This project aims to create a municipal learning ecosystem to strengthen structures that prevent and address gender violence and promote equity at the local level. In addition to educational components, the project will enhance the operational capacity of municipalities to support and respond empathetically to victims and survivors of gender violence. Liga de Ciudades de Puerto Rico also offers various resources and services, including the Agenda Municipal radio program, a newsletter highlighting important news from municipalities and communities, workshops and training sessions in collaboration with their partners, and publications and analysis related to public policy and the country's reality.
Overall, Liga de Ciudades de Puerto Rico is committed to fostering collaboration and improvement in local governance to enhance the well-being of Puerto Rican communities
