The Liga Feminina de Combate ao Câncer do Rio Grande do Sul is a civil, nonprofit and nonpartisan association supported by volunteers. Its mission is to assist people with cancer who are in need and promote cancer prevention in the community. Based in Porto Alegre, Liga/RS centers its work on prevention, patient assistance and support for quality of life during treatment.

Its outpatient clinic offers free breast and gynecological cancer prevention services to people with limited means, including nursing triage, breast examinations, cytopathological testing and referrals for mammography and breast ultrasound when appropriate. Volunteers and hired professionals also support patients at Hospital Santa Rita and Hospital da Criança Santo Antônio, providing comfort and distributing supplies such as diapers, hygiene items and towels. The clinic provides external breast prostheses, scarves, turbans and wigs to patients. Special events are organized for hospitalized children and their families.

Liga/RS also develops youth volunteering through Glamours, for girls aged 14 to 18, and Liga Jovem, whose young volunteers support the organization’s projects.
