The ligeti zentrum is an interdisciplinary arts and research center in Hamburg-Harburg, inspired by composer György Ligeti and active since 2023. Supported by four Hamburg institutions—the University of Music and Theatre Hamburg, Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, Hamburg University of Technology, and University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf—it brings together artists and researchers to explore connections between music, health, technology, and society.
Its work is organized around two clusters: Music and Health, and the transfer of ideas, knowledge, and technology. Projects and services include a music therapy teaching and treatment clinic, support for musicians, preventive health initiatives for instrumental training, and research into sound’s potential to promote well-being. The center also develops artistic technologies and formats through initiatives such as the InnoLab, XR Lab, Haptic Lab, Sustainable Theater Lab, and Production Lab.
A central part of its mission is public engagement. The ligeti zentrum presents concerts, interactive experiences, workshops, collaborations, and an international festival, connecting research with cultural and educational communities.
