LIK Nord

LIK.NORD, or Landschaft und Industriekultur Nord, is a nature conservation initiative in Saarland, Germany. Its work demonstrates how human use of the landscape can coexist with protecting and enhancing biodiversity. The project brings together four distinctive “landscape laboratories” in settled and working areas: Saarengeti, Montana, Wilder Forst and Bunte Wiesen. These varied sites welcome visitors and offer opportunities to explore nature through routes suited to different experiences.

LIK.NORD supports conservation and landscape care across this urban-industrial region, including maintenance measures at the former Neunkirchen ironworks site and work in post-mining landscapes. Its projects also connect nature with local heritage and new uses for the land. In Schiffweiler, for example, an Edible Wild Plant Park, known as EWILPA, opened as part of the project’s work on reimagining the region’s landscape and traditions. The organisation shares updates, project information, videos and visitor resources through its website, helping people discover the sites and understand the ongoing efforts to care for them.
