Lila Mae

The Lila Mae Foundation is a community-focused organization dedicated to helping young people of color access opportunities that support their growth and success. Its mission is to educate, inspire, and uplift by providing tools, exposure, and connections to people, places, and programs that can open pathways to learning and achievement.

The foundation’s programs include an annual Howard University tour for Oakland Unified School District high school sophomores and juniors. The experience introduces students to the heritage, culture, and traditions of historically Black colleges and universities, with a focus on Howard University. Participants can explore academic programs and experience the university’s Homecoming celebration.

The foundation also offers the Nipsey Hussle Entrepreneurial Grant, inspired by the late artist and community role model. The grant supports the entrepreneurial goals of young African American aspiring and existing business owners, carrying forward Nipsey Hussle’s legacy of empowerment and opportunity. Based in Berkeley, California, the Lila Mae Foundation also invites community members to volunteer, attend events, donate, and sign up for news and updates.
