Limerick Local Studies is a service of Limerick Libraries, supporting people interested in the history, heritage, and family stories of Limerick city and county. It helps beginners and experienced researchers find historical resources, trace family trees, and explore topics for school projects. Visitors can access the Local Studies department at Watch House Cross Community Library, where staff provide research assistance by appointment.

The service offers extensive print and digital collections, including books, journals, newspapers, maps, music, family history materials, and historical records. Its online resources include digitised publications, electoral lists, trades and street directories, obituaries, and records such as Griffith’s Valuation. The website also features historical articles, “Then and Now” images, the Séamus Ó Ceallaigh GAA collection, and projects exploring Limerick’s past.

Special collections and commemorations bring local events and communities into focus, including the Dromcollogher Cinema Disaster Online Archive and resources on the Decade of Centenaries. Limerick Local Studies also offers guidance to teachers, students, and family history researchers, helping them discover and use the city and county’s rich documentary heritage.
