LIMCOM

LIMCOM, the Limpopo Watercourse Commission, focuses on cooperation and coordinated management of the shared Limpopo River Basin. Its stated role is to provide recommendations on the uses of the Limpopo River, its tributaries and waters, and on measures for their protection and management. The commission’s work supports transboundary decision-making and sustainable development through collaboration among countries sharing the basin.

LIMCOM provides information about the basin’s geography, climate, hydrology, water quality, ecology, biodiversity, communities, socioeconomic conditions and governance. Its website also offers maps, publications, news, events and basin information through LIMIS. These resources help stakeholders understand water demand, infrastructure, monitoring and integrated water resource management.

Featured initiatives include developing climate change scenarios, strengthening joint basin planning, advancing science-based decision-making through the Limpopo Digital Twin, and improving the joint management of shared surface water and groundwater. LIMCOM also supports implementation of the Southern Africa Resilient Waters Programme and expansion of the Limpopo Early Warning Flood Forecast System. Through these projects and knowledge resources, the commission promotes informed cooperation on shared water resources.
