DLIFLC

The Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) is a premier institution dedicated to foreign language instruction, located at the historic Presidio of Monterey, California. DLIFLC operates under the Army Training and Doctrine Command, offering intensive, immersive language programs across ten languages. These courses, which last from 36 to 64 weeks, cater to active and reserve military personnel, foreign military students, and federal government employees.

With a team of approximately 1,900 highly qualified instructors—95% of whom are native speakers—DLIFLC emphasizes not only classroom learning but also practical language proficiency through its unique immersion programs. Students participate in real-world scenarios that enhance their speaking and comprehension skills, both at the institute and during in-country experiences in countries such as Oman and Korea. Moreover, DLIFLC provides innovative resources like the Headstart2 program for basic language acquisition and online materials to further support learners at various levels. The institute is committed to academic excellence, ensuring that its students are well-prepared for global engagement.
