Linneweber Lab is a scientific research group at Freie Universität Berlin, led by DFG Emmy Noether Group Leader Gerit Linneweber. The lab investigates individuality in the nervous system and behavior, using the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster as a model organism. Its central aim is to understand how individual behavioral differences arise and how stochastic variability contributes to animal personality.
The team uses tools from Drosophila neurobiology to explore variation across populations and individuals. Its research includes the origins and sources of individuality, differences in visual and non-visual behaviors, and the neural circuit variability associated with individual behavior. The lab also studies how flies make turning decisions and how stochasticity may shape exploration strategies.
Linneweber Lab’s work contributes to research in neurobiology, neuroethology, and neuroanatomy. It is a research and training environment rather than a commercial product or service provider, and welcomes inquiries from prospective postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, and undergraduates. Applications are welcomed throughout the year, with informal questions directed to Gerit Linneweber.
