About Lion Rouge
Lion Rouge is a dedicated conservation project developer focused on restoring biodiversity and enhancing local livelihoods in Senegal through its flagship initiative, the Grand Maka Yop Conservation Project. Spanning 35,000 hectares, this premier wildlife reserve is designed to revive populations of the West African Big 5—elephants, lions, leopards, rhinoceroses, and buffalos—while preserving numerous other endangered species.
The project unfolds in three phases, each aimed at creating a world-class safari destination reminiscent of renowned locations in South Africa and Kenya, equidistant from major European cities and the eastern United States. Lion Rouge emphasizes community involvement by generating over 120 jobs, establishing irrigation systems, and providing agroforestry training and scholarships.
With a multifaceted finance model that includes carbon credits, Lion Rouge seeks not only to protect critical habitats but also to foster eco-tourism and research in West Africa. Through sustainable practices and strong community ties, Lion Rouge aims to make the “Red Lion roar once more,” leading the charge in conservation efforts across the region.
