Lisa Långbacka is a Swedish accordionist and composer known for her distinctive improvisation and spontaneous arrangements of traditional music. Working across folk, jazz, classical music, tango, pop, opera and theatre, she performs with a wide range of artists and develops original music for collaborative projects. Her work includes composing Vidare – en småländsk svit for chamber orchestra Musica Vitae and serving as musical director for the 2017 Nobel Prize Banquet, where she also performed an original composition with Cullbergbaletten and Musica Vitae.
She has played in productions including Cabaret at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen and Cullberg Ballet’s 11th Floor, with music by Gavin Bryars. Her projects also include touring with singer Sofie Livebrant and performing with violinist Lisa Rydberg as the duo LISAS, whose album Fiddle & Accordion Conversations received positive reviews. In 2014, Långbacka was nominated Accordionist of the Year and toured with Tomas Ledin and Höga Kusten Kapellet.
She studied music in Gothenburg and Stockholm and received STIM’s special prize as Composer of 2017
