About LIS Cross-National Data Center in Luxembourg
LIS Cross-National Data Center in Luxembourg is a renowned brand that specializes in cross-national comparative research on socio-economic outcomes and institutional factors. With a mission to enable, promote, and conduct research in this field, LIS offers a range of products and services to support researchers and data users. At the core of LIS are two comprehensive and valuable databases.
The Luxembourg Income Study Database (LIS) is the largest collection of harmonized income microdata from approximately 50 countries across the globe. It covers a span of five decades and offers insights into income distribution and inequality. The Luxembourg Wealth Study Database (LWS) stands as the only cross-national wealth microdatabase available, providing crucial data on wealth disparities.
The LIS office in Esch-Belval, Luxembourg, houses a dedicated team of professionals responsible for data acquisition, harmonization, documentation, technical and user support, instruction, and administration. They also conduct research using the LIS and LWS microdata. LIS operates alongside its US LIS Satellite Office, overseen by Professor Janet Gornick at The Graduate Center of The City University of New York, and its UK LIS Satellite Office, coordinated by Dr.
Nora Waitkus at the London School of Economics and Political Science. These satellite offices provide valuable support and serve as liaison points for the respective regions. As a non-profit organization, LIS is guided by an international Board of Directors, comprising funders, data providers, and contributors.
Additionally, an Advisory Board offers counsel and expertise to further enhance LIS's impact. The brand also benefits from a Local Advisory Board from the Luxembourg community. With Professor Peter Lanjouw as the Director overseeing all aspects of LIS's work and Teresa Munzi as the Director of Operations, LIS operates with utmost dedication and professionalism.
LIS is a trusted source for data, research opportunities, and support, playing an integral role in advancing cross-national comparative research for a better understanding of socio-economic outcomes globally
