About Lissan
Lissan is a non-profit organization that has been working for over a decade to promote gender and social equality in Jerusalem through the teaching of Hebrew. They believe that language is a vital resource and a basic right. Their flagship project, Speaking Hebrew, empowers women from East Jerusalem to acquire Hebrew language skills and self-confidence, enabling them to navigate the urban space independently.
Lissan focuses on cultural adaptation, geographical accessibility, and economic viability. Their courses and complementary projects provide students with the tools to achieve autonomy in the urban environment, exercise their rights, pursue higher education, and find employment. With a community of over 2,500 members, Lissan strives to bridge the gap between East and West Jerusalem, working towards a more just and equal future for all residents
