About Liverpool Seafarers Centre
Liverpool Seafarers Centre (LSC) has a rich history dating back to the 19th century when it was founded as the Anglican Mersey Mission to Seafarers. Over the years, it has evolved and expanded its services to meet the growing needs of seafarers. In 1937, the Catholic Apostleship of the Sea (Liverpool) was established to complement the outreach work.
In the 1970s and 1980s, Liverpool Bishops John Worlock and David Sheppard played a crucial role in bridging the religious divisions between the Catholic and Anglican communities. Inspired by their unity, LSC was officially formed in 2008, merging the efforts of the Anglican Mersey Mission and the Catholic Apostleship of the Sea. LSC operates a comprehensive seafarer outreach program, offering welfare support, practical assistance, and emotional care to the 50,000 seafarers who pass through the Port of Liverpool each year.
They provide a safe and secure place for seafarers to rest and receive the support they need. With strategic partnerships, additional centers, and collaborations with organizations like Peel Ports and Liverpool City Council, LSC continues to expand its reach and impact.
