Living Forest Institute

The Living Forest Institute is a community-focused organization dedicated to strengthening connections between people and the natural forests of British Columbia’s Sunshine Coast. It recognizes forests as vital to local communities and the well-being of the planet, and works in collaboration with environmental, Indigenous, political, educational, artistic, and cultural organizations. Its approach combines education, creative projects, community engagement, and activism to inspire forest preservation.

The Institute offers a varied program of experiences and resources. Its activities include forest concert series, guided hikes for different skill levels, endangered-forest tours, workshops for schools, and community gatherings. Projects such as the Thousand Year Theatre use art and creative interpretation to explore how people relate to forests and the future. The organization also shares stories, educational materials, news, and information about at-risk forest areas, along with practical ways for the public to support protection efforts. Through donations, newsletters, events, and calls to action, the Living Forest Institute invites people to learn about local forests, take part in community initiatives, and help safeguard remaining natural and old-growth forest areas.
