About Living Lakes Network
The European Living Lakes Association (ELLA) is a non-profit organization established in 2022 as part of the international Living Lakes Network, supported by the European Union's LIFE Programme. Focusing on the conservation and sustainable management of lakes and wetlands, ELLA aims to bring together civil society organizations across Europe to address common environmental challenges. With ten NGO partners from seven countries, including Estonia, Spain, Italy, and Germany, ELLA works collaboratively to elevate wetland conservation on the political agenda and promote freshwater ecosystem preservation.
The association's activities encompass research, environmental education, and legal framework enhancements aimed at wetland restoration. ELLA also engages in networking with regional partners and international stakeholders, fostering knowledge exchange and collaborative projects. By assessing the current status of lakes in Europe, ELLA has defined clear objectives and strategies, encapsulated in reports and position papers that guide their efforts. Overall, ELLA is committed to creating a sustainable future for Europe’s vital freshwater resources through targeted conservation initiatives and community engagement.
