About LLHF
The Larry L. Hillblom Foundation is a California nonprofit public benefit corporation that supports medical research aimed at advancing knowledge and improving approaches to disease. Established through a bequest from businessman Larry L. Hillblom, one of the three founders of DHL Worldwide Express, the Foundation directs substantially all of its funding to research conducted in California, with particular attention to programs at the University of California.
Its priorities include efforts to cure, treat, and manage diabetes mellitus and metabolic syndrome, as well as chronic and degenerative diseases associated with aging. Research focused on disorders of the brain and vision receives particular emphasis. The Foundation supports basic and clinical research, along with work related to patient self-care and disease management. Its funding opportunities include Network Grants, Start-Up Grants, and Fellowship Grants, and it shares information about funded research, grant deadlines, awards, and scientific meetings. The Foundation reports awarding approximately $150 million through 317 medical research grants to universities and other institutions, supporting investigations into diabetes and age-related diseases.
