The Lobo Cancer Challenge is an annual community fundraising event supporting the University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center. Held at UNM’s Lobo Football Stadium in Albuquerque, the September gathering brings participants, families, sponsors, and supporters together to help people affected by cancer across New Mexico. Fundraising dollars go to participants’ chosen programs in cancer patient treatment and support, advanced research, community outreach, or education and training.
The event offers activities for a range of ages and abilities, including 25-mile and 50-mile bike rides, a 5K run or walk, a stadium stair challenge, a children’s Cub Pack Fun Run for ages 1–10, and a virtual participation option. A Participant Village and Wellness Village, along with games and field activities, add to the community celebration. The organization also provides sponsorship opportunities, information about the Cancer Center and its programs, event results and impact updates, and an online store featuring Challenger T-shirts. Its mission is to unite the community in support of cancer care, research, and education.
