Local-Global

Local-Global Research is a New Zealand research company established in 2009, focused on interactions, influences and connections between local and global economies, human geography, natural resources and the environment. It examines how economic and environmental processes operate across places and scales, from international flows and networks to community initiatives and local projects.

Its research addresses environmental governance, with particular attention to water resource management, groundwater governance, flood risk and resilience, common-pool resources, and collaborative and participatory decision-making. The work explores how communities and groups make decisions about the distribution of environmental benefits and harms, and evaluates whether governance arrangements support social and environmental sustainability and are democratically legitimate and fair.

Local-Global Research also engages with political ecology, environmental justice, social-ecological resilience, and international development and the environment. Its work brings together local and global perspectives through analysis of governance processes and institutional arrangements, contributing to understanding environmental challenges and the ways they are addressed in diverse settings.
