Locavore Lit is a literary journal and educational program of Light Bringer Project, created to bring writers and artists into Pasadena Unified School District and Los Angeles Unified School District classrooms. Its mission is to nurture a new generation of creatives and encourage students to see reading as a revolutionary act. Through classroom programs and guest speakers, students encounter a range of literature, develop their reading and writing skills, and explore creative expression through art.
The program also provides curriculum connected to selected journal works, helping educators bring stories and related activities into lessons. Locavore Lit publishes a journal featuring fiction, poetry, essays, and other writing, with issues presenting work by a variety of contributors and artists. Its classroom activities have included visits from writers who share their backgrounds and creative journeys with students.
The organization also highlights student experiences and connects readers with the local literary scene through social media
