They offer custom prostheses free of charge to financially disadvantaged children aged 21 and under who are experiencing long-term hair loss due to various medical conditions. Many of the recipients have alopecia areata, an autoimmune disorder that causes the hair follicles to cease functioning.

These children often lose not just scalp hair, but also their eyelashes, eyebrows, and all body hair. Locks of Love aims to provide these children with more than just hairpieces; they strive to restore a sense of normalcy and self-esteem to their lives. By offering age-appropriate prostheses that fit securely, Locks of Love addresses the unique needs of children, unlike regular wigs that can be ill-fitting and require adhesives that can cause scalp burns or irritation.
