About Lock the Gate
Lock the Gate is a national grassroots organization that aims to protect Australia's natural, cultural, and agricultural resources from inappropriate mining practices. With a network of over 120,000 supporters and 260 local groups, including farmers, conservationists, and urban residents, Lock the Gate actively campaigns against risky coal mining, coal seam gas, and fracking. Their vision is to create healthy and empowered communities that have access to fair and democratic processes to safeguard their land and water.
Lock the Gate advocates for sustainable solutions to food and energy needs while educating and empowering all Australians to demand responsible and environmentally-friendly practices. Since its formation in 2010, the Lock the Gate Alliance has been at the forefront of the battle against the rapid expansion of coal and coal seam gas development. Through the creation of 'no-go zones' and the implementation of strict pollution standards, they strive to protect productive agricultural land, important water sources, cultural heritage sites, and sensitive natural areas.
