Elstree Aerodrome, operating as a civil airfield since 1946, boasts a rich and exciting history. Once serving as a polo ground for the Aldenham Country Club, Elstree became a popular destination for flying enthusiasts prior to the Second World War. During the war, it played a vital role as the Ministry of Aircraft Production established a concrete runway and an expansive hangar to support the construction and repair of Wellington bombers.

Elstree also served as a base for the Allied Expeditionary Air Forces Communication Squadron, facilitating the transportation of agents to and from occupied Europe. Following this, Elstree experienced a period of relative quiet until John Houlder, an accomplished engineer and artillery officer, took charge and ushered in more than five decades of remarkable growth and development. Today, Elstree thrives as a bustling airfield, accommodating over a hundred fixed-wing customers, a growing rotary base, and offering 24/7 operations.
