London Otters Rowing Club is an LGBTQ-inclusive rowing club based at the Royal Docks in East London. Established in 2014, it has grown into one of the UK’s largest and most active rowing clubs, with nearly 100 members training on the water on a typical weekend. The club competes at regattas across London, elsewhere in the UK and internationally, and is affiliated with British Rowing.
For people new to the sport, the club runs up to three Otterpups Learn to Row courses each year. These six-weekend programmes introduce complete beginners to sculling and sweep rowing in crew boats, preparing them to join the club. Since its founding, the club has introduced more than 500 beginners to rowing. Experienced rowers and coxes are also welcome.
Community and inclusion are central to the club’s activities. It provides a safe, trans-inclusive space where members can be themselves on and off the water. Alongside training and competition, members take part in social events, Pride parades and community outreach, including Rainbow Races.
