About Long’s Gardens
Long’s Gardens is a third-generation, family-owned and operated iris farm in Boulder, Colorado. Founded in 1905 by J. D.
Long, the business is now run by his granddaughter, Catherine Long Gates, and her husband, Dennis Gates. The farm specializes in bearded irises, offering plants through its online store, mail order, and U-Dig fields where visitors can dig their own. Each plant is hand dug, trimmed, washed, dried, and carefully packed for shipment, with orders generally filled in July and August.
Customers can also explore growing tips, ordering information, and a virtual gallery of the farm. Long’s Gardens welcomes the public during the spring iris bloom, typically from late April through early June, offering a chance to enjoy the flowers and the historic Boulder setting. Its year-round merchandise store features iris-themed T-shirts, sweatshirts, and tote bags, alongside gift cards that can be used for merchandise or plants.
