About Lorna Hamilton-Brown
Lorna Hamilton is a versatile and talented artist, designer, academic, and independent researcher. Renowned for her groundbreaking work in knitting and crochet, she has been dubbed the Banksy of Knitting for her unique and thought-provoking approach to the craft. Lorna's artwork extends beyond the traditional notions of knitting, aiming to challenge and engage audiences with social and cultural issues.
With a 1st Class Hons degree in Digital Multimedia from De Montfort University and a Masters degree in Knitted Textiles from the Royal College of Art, Lorna combines her expertise in various disciplines to create captivating and meaningful pieces. Her artwork is not just about the ideas but also contains symbolic representations, often drawing from her personal experiences and addressing contemporary challenges. Lorna is deeply committed to documenting and promoting the contributions of black crafters, working to uncover their hidden histories and address the lack of visibility they face.
Her dedication has led her to become a member of the Vogue Knitting Diversity Advisory Council and a patron of the Knitting & Crochet Guild. Lorna's impactful work has earned her recognition, including an MBE for services to the community. Beyond her artistic endeavors, Lorna is available for speaking engagements and commissions.
