Louth Birdwatch Ireland

Louth Nature Trust is a conservation organisation focused on protecting and restoring biodiversity across County Louth, Ireland. It highlights the county’s distinctive habitats, including estuaries, wetlands, bogs, dunes, coastal areas and the Cooley Mountains, and promotes the importance of native species and healthy ecosystems. Its work includes conservation projects and public engagement, with a flagship effort at the Baltray Little Tern Conservancy.

There, the Trust helps safeguard a nationally important breeding colony through seasonal protection, habitat management, scientific monitoring, bird ringing, volunteer support and education. The organisation also shares information about local species and conservation through news, events, photographs, videos and publications, and connects visitors with sites such as Dundalk Bay, Carlingford Lough and Ardee Bog. It works alongside community groups and local heritage and environmental networks.

The Trust supports efforts to halt biodiversity loss amid pressures including habitat change and climate change. Its operations are largely funded through the Local Biodiversity Action Plan fund, administered through Louth County Council’s Heritage Office
