Franklin’s Simpson County Tourism Commission promotes Franklin, Kentucky, and its local history through community events and visitor information. The commission, working with community partners, presented the 2018 Johnny Cash and June Carter festival, commemorating the couple’s marriage in Franklin on March 1, 1968. The celebration featured a two-day outdoor concert in the historic downtown, near the courthouse, railroad, sheriff’s office and jail, and the church where Johnny and June were married.
Performers included Carlene Carter, Jeffrey East, Lee Ann Womack, the Dead Broke Barons, James Carothers, the Kentucky Headhunters, and the Charlie Daniels Band. Festival activities also included a historical marker dedication, a world-record feature, craft merchants, and other events. The commission’s website provides festival facts, frequently asked questions, news, event information, and photographs from the 2018 celebration.
