Lowcountry Land Trust

Lowcountry Land Trust is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit conservation organization based in Charleston, South Carolina. Established in 1986 to protect a 20-acre island on the Stono River, it now works across the state’s 17-county coastal plain. The organization’s mission is to protect land and water forever and connect communities to conservation. It has protected more than 167,000 acres, using conservation easements and ongoing land stewardship to safeguard private land, landscapes, and waterways.

Alongside conservation, Lowcountry Land Trust supports public access and community green spaces, sometimes working with partners to transfer and maintain land. Its projects include the future Angel Oak Preserve, a 44-acre park and living museum being developed in partnership with the City of Charleston. The organization also offers education and community programs through the Lowcountry Center for Conservation, its office and event venue, where meeting and conference rooms are available to rent. Visitors can follow conservation news, attend events, read impact reports, and support its work through donations, sponsorships, and the organization’s online shop.
